Burglary in Makkamkunnu Orthodox Cathedral Church

PATHANAMTHITTA: Police are searching for suspects in a robbery at Makkamkunnu St. Stephen’s Orthodox Cathedral church of Thumpamon diocese on Saturday late night. Police say that the gold plated cross worth Rs.40, 000 used on the altar, was abandoned in the nearby Rubber Estate by the burglars, in ruined condition.

“It’s sad. It goes to show what kind of world we’re living in right now,” said one church member.

The burglars entered the church by damaging the side windows of the Madbaha. Match sticks were spread all over Madbaha and Haikala. It is still unclear how much cash and other valuables the suspects collected during the robbery.

The very famous central Travancore Orthodox Christian Convention is held at this church grounds every year at the time of 3 day lent.

DySP P.S.Sabu, S.I. Rajappan Rauthar were in the investigation team. Finger printing personals and dog squad were also visited the crime scene for more evidences. Anto Antony M.P, MLA K.Sivadasan Nair and Muncipal Chaiman Sakir Hussain visited the church.
