
TEXAS: Dr. Binu Tharakan, a scientist at Texas A&M University College of Medicine, Texas, USA will attend the congressional liaison committee meeting for Life Sciences to be held in US Capitol, the US parliament house on September 16th, 2009.
As members of the congressional liaison committee for Life sciences, Dr. Tharakan and other scientists will meet congressmen to discuss priorities and funding issues in biomedical research. Dr. Tharakan will also attend a briefing of the Congressional Biomedical Research Caucus.
The Congressional Liaison Committee for Life Sciences is lead by prominent scientists including Nobel laureates Dr. Paul Berg and Dr. Michael Bishop and serves as an interactive platform for congressmen and life scientists on various issues in biomedical research and funding.
Dr. Tharakan currently conducts research on traumatic injury induced microvascular disfunction and stem cell applications in traumatic injury. He has published his research in internationally recognized journals, presented at various national and international conferences and served as a reviewer for several scientific journals. Dr. Tharakan has obtained his Ph.D from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and conducted postdoctoral research at the National Center for Biological Sciences, Bangalore and at the National Institutes of Health, USA.
Dr. Tharakan and his family, wife Mannisha and son Jayanth, lives in Texas, USA. They are members of the St. Gregorios Orthodox Church in Austin, Texas.
