PARUMALA: Saturday, 22nd August 2009, marked another milestone in the history of St Gregorios Orthodox Society since the much awaited 11th Family Conference was held blissfully on that day at Parumala.
In the inaugural session, Patron Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios Metropolitan, Co- Patron Geevarghese Mar Coorilos and Advisory Board Chairman Rev Dr. K.M. George, Parumala Seminary Manager M.D. Yoohanon Ramban and Fr. P. A. Philip(Director HRD), and Geevarghese Mar Coorilos Metropolitan were present.
Geevarghese Mar Coorilos Metropolitan in His Presidential Address shared his experiences recently at Taize community, France and USA where youngsters were seen to be getting more and more interested and trying to dive deep into the depths of orthodox spirituality.
Dr Geevarghese Mar Osthathios Metropolitan exhorted everyone to lead an austere life submissive to Almighty. Metropolitan cited his own life as an example of ups and downs and explained how the Lord would take care of His beloved ones.
Fr. Dr K.M. George said that his presence there itself was a testimony of the blessing of Almighty as it would not have been possible otherwise due to personal reasons.
Jose Kurian Puliyeril presented the theme with the informative and interesting presentation giving valuable tips to lead a sacramental life.
In the key note address, Fr. P.A. Philip (Director of the Human Resources Department of the Holy Church) put forth a 20 point program based on St Paul’s advices emphasizing on the integrity of Family and Family relationships – often backed up by research analysis, quotations and humorous yet very thought provoking stories and incidents. Few who answered on the spot questions based on Fr. P.A. Philip’s address were given instant prizes.
SGOS then honored luminaries who had made valuable contributions to the church and Society. Prof. John Mathew Koodarathil(G. Secretary of Ardra and Senior Vice President of MGOCSM), Jose Kurian Puliyeril (G. Secretary of AMOSS and Secretary of the Catholicate Centenary), C.P. Mathew (Founder of Valley of Love and President of SGOS Sharjah Unit), Paul Manalil (Recipient of a host of literary awards) were honored by decorating them with golden shawls (Ponnada). The audience was then enthralled by a magnificent devotional song by Shilly Mary Abraham.
V.I. Thomas, Secretary of SGOS Unit, Dubai was handed over the souvenir as a mark of the appreciation for the month long Uninterrupted Bible reading at St Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Dubai and the contributions of SGOS unit there.
Fr. John K. Varghese, the master mind of the conference, gave a brief introduction about the SGOS, its formation and current activities highlighting the vision and mission of the organization as envisaged by its Patrons, Advisory Board, Office bearers and founder members. Saji M Idiculla (Moderator of SGOS) proposed the vote of thanks.
