NAGPUR: On the dawn of 15th of August 2009, along with the whole nation, the students of Prerana Special School also celebrated India’s independence. Metropolitan Dr. Yuhanon Mar Militos of Thrissur diocese was the chief guest on the occasion.
Soon after the flag hoisting ceremony, the kids of the school presented an enthralling display of variety entertainment show. The students of the STOTS also joined hands with the school children making it a lively and heart-warming function.
Prerana School is a non profit institution exclusively developed for the malnourished and underprivileged mentally challenged children in and around the city of Nagpur. This is a mission project of the St. Thomas Orthodox Seminary.
One of the major works undertaken by the school is the special training given to the mentally challenged children near and around Kalmeshwar. Prerana society also provides vocational training to its students to create handicrafts, greeting cards, wall hangings, etc to prepare the mentally challenged children to live a life of their own.
At present, about 60 students of neighboring villages are benefited by Prerana School. 30 students are full time residents of Prerana Hostel and rest of them are day scholars.
