KOTTAYAM: Saith oil which is used for the purification of the whole being is consecrated at Devalokam Aramana Chapel on Thursday, August 7, 2009.
The supreme head of the Indian Orthodox Church Baselios Marthoma Didymos I was the chief celebrant on the occasion.
Holy oil Saith is being used in the sacraments of baptism and holy unction by the church. It is believed that the oil carries God’s grace both to renew the body and to cleanse the spirit. Unlike Holy Muron, Saith oil may be consecrated by Metropolitans for the use of a diocese. But it is not common in the tradition and the practice of the church is that the Catholicose does this consecration for the entire church.
The Holy oil was consecrated in the midst of the celebration of Holy Qurbana on the day of the transfiguration of our Lord. The service lasted for long four hours from 7am to 11 am.
Catholicose Elect Mar Paulose Miletheos delivered the sermon on the occasion. Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Synod Dr. Mathews mar Severios, Metropolitans Dr.Yakoob Mar Irenaeos, Yuhanoon Mar Polycarpos, Dr. Mathews Mar Themotheos and Dr. Yuhanoon Mar Diascoros assisted the ceremony.
Priests, Deacons and students of the Orthodox Theological seminary, Kottayam and hundreds of faithful attended the consecration
