Malankara Orthodox Church In Doha Consecrated

DOHA: A new worship place for the Malankara Orthodox Christian community in Doha was consecrated on Friday July 3, 2009.
Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the diocesan bishop of Bombay was the chief celebrant for the consecration at Inter Denominational Christian Church (IDCC) complex at Abu Hamour.
Metropolitan Dr. Mathews Mar Severios, secretary to the Holy Episcopal Synod was the chief guest on the occasion.
The Metropolitans were given a ceremonial welcome by the faithful and clergy to the church for the consecration ceremony.
While speaking Mar Coorilos praised the Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani for providing land for the construction of a place of worship for the community members.
Indian Ambassador HE Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, community leaders and priests from other Christian groups attended the function.
The consecration ceremony began with evening prayer at the church on Wednesday and the first part of the ceremony was completed that day.
A retreat was also conduted prior to the consecration by Fr T J Joshua. More than 1500 faithful attended the consecration ceremony on Friday.
Fr. Thomas Myalil the vicar of the parish welcomed the gathering. Fr.M.E.Joseph and Fr.T.U Thomas are serving the parish as asst. vicars.
