HOUSTON: Metropolitan Alexios Mar Eusabios, the new Metropolitan of South West American Diocese has arrived in Houston on Saturday May 30, at 2.35 p.m.
Fourteen priests of the diocese Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio and many hundreds of faithful were there to receive the Metropolitan at St. Thomas Orthodox Church in Stafford.
After the red carpet reception, Dr. Zachariah Thomas, the Sabha Managing committee member received the Metropolitan with Bouquet. Cor Episcopos Geevarghese Aroopala welcomed the Metropolitan with the traditional lighted candle.
Mar Eusebius said luthinia and prayer at St. Thomas Church. Thereafter the Metropolitan addressed the gathering.
“The prime purpose of every christian is to witness Christ Jesus through very own life” said Mar Eusebius while speaking to the faithful. Metropolitan also appealed the clergy to be the rolemodel in witnessing Christ through their works and deeds. Meanwhile His Grace inaugurated the Sunday school anniversary meet of St. Thomas Church. Mar Eusebius closed the speech with benediction and left to the temporary Diocesan Bishop’s House for the dedication ceremony.
Just before Mar Eusebius assuming charge, His Grace visited Mar Barnabas and Mar Nicholovos at New York Bishop House.
Mar Eusebius celebrated Holy Qurbana at St. Thomas Church on 31st May.
On June 7, 2009 Mar Eusebius will celebrate Holy Qurbana and Inaugurate the Sunday school anniversary of St. Stephens Orthodox Church. His Grace Will Conduct the Holy Qurbana at St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Houston on 14th May 2009.
The Official Inauguration of the New Diocese will be conducted on June 13, 2009 at University of Houston after the Holy Qurbana. The Holy Qurbana will start at 7 a.m. on June 13. At 10.30 A.M. in a Public meeting the new diocese will be inaugurated officially by the Metropolitan of the North East American Diocese, Mathews Mar Barnabas.
Earlier in 2007 the Sabha managing Committee appointed its honorable member Philipose Philip to submit a report on the feasibilty of forming a new diocese within the American diocese. Managing committee after a detailed discussion, in three of the consecutive asseblies, declared its decision to form the new South West American diocese and send it before the Holy Episcopal Synod for the final approval. Managing committee members Fr. Jacob Philip and Dr. Zachariah Thomas of Houston voiced ratifing the report submitted by Philipose Philip were also the key persons in the formation of the new diocese.
In March, 2009 the South West American diocese came into existance with the encyclical from the Catholicose and Malankara Metropolitan His Holiness Baselius Marthoma Dydimus I.
