Philip Jacob IIM – Ahmedabad Rank Holder

VAYALATHALA: Philip Jacob of Thevarkattil from Vayalathala near Pathanamthitta has won the gold medal for the top scorer of the IIM-Ahmedabad. Philip Jacob is the first Keralite to make it to the top. “It was because of God’s blessings and hard work” Philip said on hearing the news of achieving the gold medal.

He has topped in the last four of the six semesters at the IIM. He will be presented the gold medal by IMF chief economist Raghuram Rajan at the convocation to be held in Ahmedabad on April 2.

Philip is the grand son of ( Late) Thevarkattil Philipose Kathanar and son of Fr.Jacob P.Philip (Catholicate Higher Secondary School principal, Pathanamthitta ) and P.Y.Kunjamma (professor, Catholicate College Pathanamthitta ). Philip has a younger sister, Princy Anu Jacob, who is currently doing her B.Tech in Model Engineering College, Ernakulam. Fr.Philipose P.Philip the diocesan secretary of Canada-Europe is Philip’s Father’s younger brother.

Philip would join Lehman Brothers, the leading investment bank based in the US, in July at its London office as a senior analyst with a pay package of $1.5 lakh a year. Thereafter he would move to the bank’s headquarters in New York in October 2005.

Philip said that he would like to come back to India after gaining experience and would set up a venture of his own.

Philip had written many articles on budget analysis in IIM and in leading business dailies while as a student of M.B.A in Ahmedabad.

“The students should have a positive mindset on their capabilities and try to understand the amount of opportunities that they have now rather than focus on getting medical or engineering seats” said Philip Jacob

After the completion of his schooling at Catholicate School in Pathanamthitta and the Navodaya School at Vechoochira, he took his B.Tech from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, with distinction.
